Google’s “Android” Cell Phone Platform
Google is in the game.
The cell-phone game.
Kind of.
Google is developing “the first complete, open, and free mobile platform.” Think Linux, now coming to a cell phone near you.
Note: Planet Ocean (searchenginenews.com) erroneously called Android “a revolutionary new cell phone that is currently in the development stages.” It is NOT a cell phone, it is a cell phone platform.
Google is partnering with 34 companies (Sprint, eBay, T-Mobile) to both develop and standardize, but the interesting thing is that developers all over the world, with no allegiance to any company, can add to the platform.
What does this mean?
Innovation can come from anywhere.
Yes, it might come from a corporation who builds a cool application to run on Android to help their customers (easy to imagine in the travel or banking industries), a sole developer or a community of…well, anything.
You can watch a demo or read all about the Android here.
